Sant'Anna Arresi is a small town, with nearly 2000 residents, part the Carbonia-Iglesias county in the that south-west historical region known as Sulcis-Iglesiente.
Its name derives from the union of the name of the Saint protector of the town, Saint Anne, and the name that was used to identify the nuraghe at the centre of the town, next to the parish church (built in eighteen hundred, and substituted today by a newer religious building, erected on the other side of the nuraghe).
The actual town saw its first houses built in seventeen hundred, right next to the nuraghe, which still today dominates the main square of the town. The first dwellings were only rural constructions, which have been modified and expanded until reaching today's dimensions. At the centre of the urban area is, as we said, the nuraghe between the two churches, both dedicated to Saint Anne. The nuraghe belongs to the Tancato typology, which describes constructions composed of a main north-facing tower and a secondary, smaller tower on its south side, united by enclosing walls inside a protected yard.
Very important for the whole area, especially for their beauty as touristic attraction, are the beaches of Porto Pino, located only a few kilometres away from the town, which attract thousands of visitors during the whole year but particularly on the summer season.
